Oral Cancer Screening
We do routine checks for oral cancer as well as other pathological findings or abnormalities that can be found in the mouth. It is important to find unusual changes in the mouth, bone, tongue, and throat. These may or may not be caused by disease. Early detection is important. A visual screening is first conducted to identify any abnormal areas. Intraoral pictures are taken to help document the appearance of the lesion on that specific date. We also utilize a Vizilte which is a purple light to aid in what can be seen. Targets cancerous cells. A biopsy or tissue removal is usually the best way to determine a diagnosis. The sample is sent to a pathology laboratory for analysis.
